PRESBYTERY OF THE PINES, ARKANSAS/LOUISIANA - he death of Erna Yick, teacher and elder, was a terrible blow for the people of Nkom, Cameroon. When her oldest daughter, now a Presbyterian elder in Magnolia, Arkansas, returned from the funeral, she shared the experience with church members.
Impressed by the faith of the people, the Magnolia church offered a memorial gift, asking, “What do you need?” Expecting to hear “a new water system” or “help with developing a cash crop,” the Nkom congregation instead asked Magnolia to help them build a new church.
