ABILENE, TEXAS - Catching up with Carolyn Houghton of Hamlin is a challenge. She is one busy woman.

For instance, an initial attempt to call her found her serving lunch to her teen-age grandson and a cousin, a daily routine on school days. Then she spent the afternoon distributing toys to children who otherwise might not have gotten much for Christmas. Each child got a small stocking full of items which Houghton purchased or created herself.

She is constantly busy with volunteer work serving others. Daughter Ginger Houghton has watched this for years, and nominated her mother as an Everyday Hero ...
