In the News ... Everyday Hero: "Lawn's Carolyn Atkins volunteers to educate others"

ABILENE, TEXAS - In the 1930s (or perhaps ‘20s; memory isn’t certain), Carolyn Atkins’ grandmother joined the Honeybees Extension Education Club, first in Callahan County, then the newly formed club in Taylor County.

The club helps with education, but also performs numerous services to people in the county. She passed the volunteering tradition to her daughter, who then passed it along to Atkins.

Her service in this organization and many other projects, as well as being “Johnny on the spot” for many needs, inspired Margie Wheeler of Ovalo to nominate Atkins as an Everyday Hero ...
