PRESBYTERY OF CENTRAL NEBRASKA - While the vast mammalian herds no longer migrate through this region, avian species provide awesome seasons of incredible natural beauty to central Nebraska. Our communities offer many of the same amenities and cultural opportunities as more urban communities, but here one has to seek out and sometimes travel considerable distance for them. In some of our more rural areas, the rugged romance and realism of living in “the outback” requires sturdy souls and strong human relationships. For church to happen here, Presbyterians must be prepared to hang tough together, cooperate with their neighbors, and be engaged in ecumenical dialogue. In Keystone, one of America’s oldest shared church buildings (now a museum) was built to accommodate both Presbyterians and Roman Catholics. Its pews, installed using railroad-bench mechanisms, can be oriented to face the Catholic altar on one end of the church or the Presbyterian pulpit on the other.
