PRESBYTERY OF DES MOINES, IOWA - In 1990 the Presbytery of Des Moines planted the seeds of what would become Our Sister Parish, a joint ecumenical mission in Berlin, El Salvador. The Salvadoran leaders of the mission work with a group of democratically elected grassroots leaders working to help their communities determine their resources and needs. Some communities decide that they need water tanks, a larger school, a seed bank, or another development project that will allow them to help themselves. These needs are then passed on to the Salvadoran leadership team or to US partner churches in order to make the projects a reality.
