From Partners Relief & Development ... “Before you unplug ...”

Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma, and now in the Middle East, as well. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other conflict zones.

An update before you unplug

I get that it’s summer and honestly, we’ve been bombarded daily with horrifying news these past few months; no wonder so many of us are flocking to the beaches and parks; we need a break! I myself am unplugging next week with my family because we need to breathe in fresh air instead of toxic news and try to forget for a week how anxious we all are. So I hate - hate - to bring you more bad news. But here it is.

“The whole world’s facing a crisis unlike anything we’ve seen probably in everyone’s lifetime. But, quite frankly, what’s happening in Syria is unprecedented. It’s the worst of all storms coming together.”
~ David Beasley, World Food Program, June 29, 2020

Storm 1: a nine-year conflict that’s been as brutal as it could be and has displaced millions of people.

Storm 2: COVID-19 that disproportionately affects displaced and refugee families in Syria.

Storm 3: An economic free fall since January 2020, and a 200% rise in food prices resulting in 9.3 million people now food insecure.

Result: Perfect storm.

I am asking you today to be a port in that storm for people who I’m sure think the world has forgotten about them.

We are hoping to distribute food packs to 2,000 displaced families per month in Northeast Syria with a particular focus on those who remain displaced from the invasion of Turkish forces and their proxies in late 2019. These families live in schools-turned-shelters in the Hasakah area as well as “temporary” displaced persons camps or in rented accommodation in the same area. (Remember when they fled there last October? You helped then too). Using robust and trusted networks, we are able to safely and reliably distribute funds to the region and our local team will personally lead the delivery and distribution of 6 months of food parcels in the Hasakah area as we anticipate a minimum of 6 months disruption to food supply.

Be a part of this movement of love by giving a fraction of your normal grocery bill and help us reach our goal of $1 million in food aid.

$72 for a month of food
$36 for 2 weeks of food
$18 for a week of food
Donate Other Amount
Note: Each food parcel feeds a family of 5-6 people.

Today I want to encourage you to do two things that research shows will improve your mood and decrease anxiety:

Give a generous amount of groceries to a family you’ve never met.
Make time to unplug today: go for a walk, sit in the grass, listen to summer alive around you.

Giving and summering with you,

P.S. We have partnered with Fellow to print our logo on a small batch of their Carter Everywhere Mug. Our HQ team tested the Carter Mug for months before deciding to put our logo on it. Because you are on our email list, you get to shop it early, a whole 24 hours before everyone else.
