ODESSA, TEXAS - This is the first year Kori Heath has been the horticulture teacher for the Ector County Independent School District, and she’ll be the first one to tell there were moments when she thought the annual poinsettias were in trouble.
When the 2,000 poinsettias were first planted in August, it wasn’t long before the pumps in the part of the greenhouse where the plants were kept went out. Through some quick minute thinking, and lots of help from the maintenance man Julian, the pumps were replaced.
Then when the weather started to get colder, Heath said the heater pads went out, which again caused her and her students scrambling to find a way to keep the plants warm ...
