Invitation to Prayer from Faces of Children ... WEDNESDAY

Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Our mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, we seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).

Invitation to Prayer, WEDNESDAY

Hi Friends,

Thank you for joining me in prayer for the children of the world. If you can, we'd love to have you pray together with us this Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., in the gym conference room at First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, followed by lunch together.

Dear Intercessors,

We just finished VBS, and for our VBS Missions Project this year, we raised money to send to one of our partner ministries, Partners Relief and Development. The purpose of Partner's is to work for free and full lives for Myanmar's children, and the money sent will be used by Partner's to help them buy relief supplies for members of the Rohingya ethnic group who are forced to live in concentration camps in Myanmar. For the next few weeks, I thought I would share what we did in VBS. For those of you with children, each one of these has a corresponding learning activity that can be done to help further explain the situation.

The Rohingya used to live in cities and towns just like us. They had houses and jobs and the kids went to school every day. But then some powerful people decided that they didn't like the Rohingya because they practice a different religion (they are Muslim) and look different (they are ethnically like Bangladeshi people and stand out in Burma). So they kicked them out of their houses and forced them to move into an area without any access to hospitals, jobs, schools, grocery stores, and all the other things people need to live. They aren't allowed to leave the camps, and although some non-profit organizations have built a few shelters, most families have had to create shelters for themselves out of tarps and old pieces of metal and wood.

In the rainy season, everyone has to sleep underneath a mosquito net to protect themselves from Malaria, and some families only have one net so everyone has to sleep together underneath it. We grouped the children together and asked them to figure out a way to lay down together underneath a mosquito net. We also talked about how visitors going into the camps have to sneak in past the military guards, and we talked about how much courage it takes to do what Jesus asks us to do even when powerful people say we shouldn't.

A prayer for you and your kids to say together: Dear Jesus, Please be with the Rohingya people who lost their homes, jobs, and money. We know you care about people who the world treats badly, so please help us learn how to care for them too. Thank you for organizations like Partner's who sneak into the camps to bring medical care, food, and supplies. Please protect all the people and their families who stand up to the government and try to treat the Rohingya the way you want them to be treated. And more than anything, Jesus, please help the Rohingya know that You are the one who brings justice, even when powerful people treat them badly. Amen.
