WAW Wednesday ... Mollie's Report from Belize, Post-Hurricane

"The Word at Work is a ministry that mobilizes churches and individuals to answer God's call to minister to those in need," writes Rev. Tim Tam, Director of the Amarillo, Texas-based ministry. "Through our relationships, God reveals needs and opportunities for service. As we come along side the poor, new friendships develop and doors for ministry open. As we serve, God provides the resources to supply for the needs he reveals."

Mollie's Report from Belize, Post-Hurricane

Friends,

Hurricane Earl has come and gone and our team from Paoli Presbyterian Church is safe and sound at Banana Bank where roof was blown off one cabanna trees down, Tika still in her cage, the electricity has returned and the river is rising. It's been a week of contrasts to say the least!

-Joy for the team and the girls and staff at Maria's House of Hope as they renewed heir friendship while painting, playing, and praying together, and angst over the impending storm.

-Shrieks of delight at being caught in the rain and great sadness over the destruction to homes, crops, and the beautiful landscape of Belize.

-Opportunities to our friends and comfort them, and sadness over having to say goodbye.

After the all clear was given late this morning, Kenny and I were able to make the trip to Belize City to check on conditions for our next team coming in from Discovery Church in North Carolina--their arrival has been delayed due to power and water issues in the city--but oh my will they have opportunities to see God at work and join Him! Flooding in some areas woke residents to find 3 feet of water in their homes.

These shots are not great, but a sample of what we saw...

While more than 2,000 homes were affected in Belize City alone, we heard over and over how grateful our friends and partners are that there has been no report of loss of life. Praise God!

Your prayers have sustained us and we are grateful...this is the best kind of tired Ever! Thank you for being the word at work.

Signing off from Belize,

Mollie Swafford
