MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Rev. Steve Schorr, senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church - Midland, said he recently heard a story about a wedding officiated decades ago by former assistant pastor the Rev. Franklin Ray Riddle Jr. At the ceremony, Riddle had appeared stiff and out of character, Schorr said. The bride and groom learned later that he had received a broken collar bone while body surfing in Hawaii the week before -- he was 65 years old.
"At 65 years old, I hope I'm body surfing like Ray was," Schorr said.
Riddle, who was assistant pastor at First Presbyterian for 10 years beginning in 1974, died March 2, a day before his 94th birthday.
