From @mmm_water ... 2023 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2023. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

LIKE A SPRING OF WATER
Jim Calloway
Volunteer, Illinois

"And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday. And the Lord will continually guide you and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones, and you will be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. Those among you will rebuild the ancient ruins: you will rise up the age-old foundations and you will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the streets in which you dwell.” - Isaiah 58:10-12

These are incredibly strong words. They empower us, they give us permission, and they give us obligation. The well season is a time of very hard work and long hours. African staff and workers have spent many long weeks preparing. We mzungu have given much to “come so far to do so much in so little time.” The words from Isaiah can serve to inspire us and give us strength when the days are too hot and the hills too steep!

As we move from village to village dedicating new wells and celebrating with the people there, we really can feel the light rising from the darkness and the gloom becoming like midday. Every time. At each village, joy and gratitude are expressed through smiles, laughter, and song.

And so it goes, even on the most difficult days, we can stay reminded that we are all here to bring water to the thirsty, to provide desperately needed help to people in need, and to witness the simple miracle of loving our neighbors.

Application Question: How may you stay focused and strong in your mission?

Prayer: Heavenly Spirit, thank You for the strength given to me by You that enables me to be a part of the MMM miracle. Help us to be mindful of the needs of all our neighbors and keep us humble as we go about being the people You desire us to be. Amen
