From @mmm_water ... 2023 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2023. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

GOD IS IN THE ORDINARY
Reverend Dick McFarlin
Well Ambassador, Texas

"He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” - Micah 6:8

Each of us is born with an unencumbered spot, free of expectation and regret, free of ambition and embarrassment, free of fear and worry, an unblemished spot of grace where we are each touched by God. It is this spot of grace that issues peace.

To know this spot of inwardness is to know who we are, not by the surface markers to identity, not by where we work or what we wear or how we like to be addressed, but by feeling our place in relation to God, who is infinite, and by living within that place. This is a hard life-long task. Becoming the person God created each of us to be is a constant rediscovery of that incorruptible spot of grace at the center.

God is in the ordinary, the minute particulars. When you come right down to it, all life is holy. What is most real may be those things which cannot be expressed at all but only known.

Native Americans of the U.S. Great Plains believe the air is filled with good and bad dreams. According to legend, the good dreams pass through the center hole of the dream catcher to the sleeping person; the bad dreams are trapped in the web where they perish in the light of dawn.

Well work is a place where we each can find that spot of grace at the center of who we are. The smiles of the villagers as clean water comes from the spout, the look of hope in the eyes of the adults, songs of gratitude, dancing, gifts of wapita panjalla, a lump in the throat and tears of joy among team members say it all.

Application Question: How might I find my spot of grace at the center of who I am, who God has created me to be?

Prayer: O Giver of the springs of Living Water, receive our thanks for Your gifts of grace! Amen
