From @mmm_water ... 2023 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2023. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

WHEN WE PRAY ...

WHEN WE PRAY, WE MOVE OUR FEET (Tom Logan)

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” - James 2:17-18

TAs a volunteer at Marion Medical Mission, I have had the privilege of seeing “moving feet” in action. Many of us have heard disturbing news in recent times that causes us to shake our heads in frustration and sadness. Our response is usually something like “somebody ought to do something about that!” Then someone, of genuine faith, might say “I’ll pray that God will take care of that problem...or those people.” We pray for God’s help because we know He loves us and cares for our needs.

Tom Logan was confronted with the sad story of people who were sick and dying; whose children were not living into adulthood; all because they did not have a safe, clean source of fresh water. His response was to “move” his feet; and to inspire others to do the same. The result was Marion Medical Mission. His faith was amplified and multiplied in the thousands of wells – the “works.”

If all that was done, when that knowledge came to light, was to feel sadness and to pray that “someone” would solve the problem, those wells in four African countries would not exist. All the people who now have a source of safe water would still be the victims of contaminated disease-ridden water. The key was showing faith by works.

Application Question: Are you still showing your faith without works? James says faith without works is dead. I want my faith to be alive and kicking. How about yours?

Prayer: Father, grant us the boldness and compassion to show our faith by our works. Encourage us to pay attention to the urging of the Holy Spirit. Help us to shine forth a living faith. Amen
