From @mmm_water ... 2023 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2023. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE
Meg Packard
Volunteer and MMM Board Member, Alabama

"He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?” - Micah 6:8

The philosophy behind Marion Medical Mission is the clearest example I know of that lives out the directives of this verse: do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God. Just by being a part of this organization — whether a villager, a zone committee member, a maintenance person, a builder, an installation supervisor, a field officer, a coordinator, a volunteer, or an administrator — we are all offered the opportunity to live into what is real, what is important in life. Marion Medical Mission truly is a shining example of what we can accomplish when we work together to fulfill God’s will.

      • In this program each and every one of us is needed to address the wrong that is the suffering of those living without clean water. If we all do our part, we can fix this injustice, one village at a time.

In this program each and every one of us is brought to our knees by the overwhelming kindness of strangers … the villagers singing and dancing, the African staff who bend over backwards to help us in any way they can and laugh and talk with us as we exchange stories of our vastly different cultures, the volunteers as we help each other stumble down unfamiliar paths, both literally and figuratively, and the donors who give generously to improve the lives of people who live on the other side of the globe.

In this program each and every one of us cannot help but walk humbly with our God as we witness and participate in the miracle that occurs every time clean water is first drawn from the well! It is a privilege beyond belief to be a part of this process … to recognize that working together we are indeed God’s hands and feet. All glory to God!

So at the start of each day, when we are getting ready to face the day and its inevitable challenges, remember to keep it simple — do what is right, be kind, and give all glory to God.

Application Question: How can I quiet the competing voices in my mind and keep it simple so that I can let God’s love shine through me to others?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, let Your divine love for all Your Creation shine through us in all that we do today, and help us to truly love You and see You in the faces of all those we meet. Help us to keep it just that simple. Amen
