In the News ... "Habitat home provides kids with ‘a place where they can grow up’"

MIDLAND, TEXAS - While it usually means that someone is in trouble, Midlander Teressa Martinez gains a certain sense of joy in telling her kids to go to their rooms.

Teressa and Joey Martinez, who previously had shared one room with three children, refuse to take for granted their home and the luxuries that it affords them.

“Being in one room you realize that you take a lot of things for granted, like having company over or quality time with your significant other,” said Joey Martinez. “Having that (ability) in this house is the best memory that I’ve had personally. Some people get tired of company, but I enjoy it.”

When Martinez first met his future wife and her two oldest children nearly five years ago, she had already reached out to Midland Habitat for Humanity about applying for a home, but she didn’t have any luck ...
