LUBBOCK, TEXAS - T.J. Patterson Sr. started his speech the same way in each pod he visited at the Lubbock County Detention Center on Christmas Day. He asked each inmate to loudly repeat after him: “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”

The former city councilman along with his daughter, current District 2 City Councilwoman Shelia Patterson Harris, and five volunteers from Each One Reach One ministry visited the detention center Tuesday to spread candy and holiday cheer ...
