In the News ... "Housing Crisis in Midland Raises the Homeless Population in MISD"

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Homeless students are identified as either living in a shelter, with another family in what's called "doubling up," or living in a motel, hotel, RV, car, etc.

Kaye Bolinger with Midland Independent School District says there are 394 homeless students in the district in their program. The program gives students help such as food, clothing, utilities, immunizations, mentoring, uniforms, tutoring.

Ronda Childers with Family Promise says that when she first moved to the area, she was homeless. Her and her husband had to live with family members until they could find other arrangements. Some cases may be more extreme than others, but she says it happens all the time.
