MIDLAND, TEXAS - You can give a guy in prison all the money in the world, but if you don’t change his heart, he’s going to go back to his old ways,” said Tyrone McGruder, interim director of New Direction Ministry.

The non-denominational Christian ministry was founded by the Rev. Roy Smith, pastor at True-Lite Christian Fellowship, and gives ex-prison inmates a transitional home to help them adjust to life outside prison.

Next week the church will host Living Illusions, a stunt man and escape artist show, to benefit the ministry. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12. Individual tickets are $3 and are available at www.truelite.org/ , New Direction Ministry at 509 N. Loraine St. or True-Lite Christian Fellowship Church at 3001 N. “A” St.
