Today in the PC-USA Mission Yearbook

The Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study is a daily devotional with 365 inspiring mission stories that come from next door and all across the globe. It inspires thousands of Presbyterians daily as they uphold the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in intercessory prayer. The stories in the 2013 Mission Yearbook were gathered around the question of Jesus to his disciples, “How many loaves have you?” from Mark 6:38. The book is filled with stories of God’s abundance in the face of overwhelming needs and a scarcity of resources.

LEBANON - In a part of the world that is often characterized as patriarchal, the Presbyterian church in Lebanon, a part of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, has certainly affirmed the calls and gifts of women.

Najla Kassab is director of the synod’s Christian education department. She is the first woman to become a licensed preacher in her church, a step towards ordination as a minister. A wife and mother of three, she oversees the teaching ministries in the synod’s 38 congregations and also administers the year-round seminars and retreats held at the synod’s conference center in the mountains north of Beirut.
