From @austinseminary ... "The Reed" for December 2018

• 2018: Austin Seminary’s year in review

Our 2018 MidWinters, January 29-31, featured Dr. Willie James Jennings, Dr. Frank Yamada, The Very Reverend Cynthia Briggs Kittredge, and The Reverend Dr. Jonathan L. Walton. The Austin Seminary Association Distinguished Alumni Awards were given to The Reverend Dr. Valerie Bridgeman (MDiv’90), and The Reverend Dr. David Gambrell (MDiv’98).

Two members of the faculty announced their retirements this year. Professor Lewis R. Donelson, The Ruth A. Campbell Professor of New Testament Studies (left) has served on the faculty since 1983. Professor Whitney Bodman, associate professor of comparative religion (right, wearing his "Ted tie") has taught since 2002.

A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Gratitude to God for the Life of Robert Shelton, the Jean Brown Professor Emeritus of Homiletics and Liturgics, was held on May 1. Bob Shelton was called to the faculty in 1971, served as academic dean for fifteen years, and as president for six.

In May, The Reverend Bridgett Green, left, was called as assistant professor of New Testament. In August, The Reverend Dr. Jennifer Owens-Jofré, right, was appointed to a two-year position as visiting assistant professor of constructive theology.

In October, Austin Seminary received a pledge of $4 million toward the Learning and Information Center from Mary and Robert Wright and Michael and Stacy Wright. It is the largest non-estate donation ever made to Austin Seminary.

Professor Margaret Aymer, the First Presbyterian Church, Shreveport, D. Thomason Professor of New Testmament Studies, was invited by the Archbishop of Canterbury to London in November to advise on the next Lambeth Conference for Anglican bishops worldwide in 2020.

Merry Christmas!
