From @mmm_water ... 2019 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 14 - October 28 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

THE HAPPIEST LADY I MET
Rev. David Fisher
Volunteer, Colorado

“Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:58b

She was the happiest lady in Tanzania that morning. It was the last day of well installation for my partner, Richard, and I. They were the last two wells and she was present at both of them. When our installation team arrived, she greeted us with the largest of smiles and laughter and repeated utterances of “Asante, Asante!” (“Thank you, Thank you!”). Her enthusiasm was contagious and did not flag as we installed each of the two wells that were a short walk from each other. When we gave the dedication speech at each well, she cheered as each phrase was translated. She cheered during the instruction speech on how to use the well as each point was made. After we finished, she accompanied us back to the truck, holding Richard’s hand and talking ceaselessly in Swahili. We didn’t know all she was saying, but we knew she was grateful (Asante!) and we knew she was happy! All it took was clean, protected water!

We know the work we do in the field with our African partners is significant and life changing. We know in our heads, in an intellectual way, that clean protected water will improve health and save lives. Sometimes, we do not realize how impactful it is until we meet the people who will be impacted the most and experience the overflowing joy that they express. The happiest lady I met that day showed me how much of what God does through us impacts the heart. When you meet such people in your Marion Medical Mission work, rejoice with them and know deeply that you are a part of changing lives; saving lives. All it takes is clean, protected water!

Application Question: When have you seen or experienced joy as a result of what God is doing through you? How can you be more alert to such moments?

Prayer: Lord, make me conscious this day of where you are working and help me to joyfully enter that work. Amen
