From @mmm_water ... 2019 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 14 - October 28 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

PART OF CHRIST’S BODY
Hugh Stempfley
Volunteer, Illinois

“We are like various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body.”
Romans 12: 4-5 (The Message)

Paul’s letter to the Romans talks of the life of the mind and body enlisted in the service of God. This is exactly what we are doing today when we volunteer for this grand adventure we are undertaking. We have come to Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia to do our part in spreading Christ’s message by providing life giving water. But we should also take the time to thank all those who had a part in bringing the well to the villagers.

To the women who recognized the need for clean water and formed the water committee, we thank you. To the water committee who organized the villagers, obtained the promises to supply the work and resources necessary to pay for the well and contacted the field officers to apply for the well, we thank you.

To the villagers who dug the well, carried the stones to protect the water, and supplied the workers to finish the well, we thank you. To the builders who constructed the well with the bricks the villagers had made, we thank you. To the Field Officers, installation supervisors, and Well Program Coordinators who are in charge of the program in Africa, we thank you.

And to the American volunteers, the donors who sponsored the wells, the foundations who provide the funds for administrative needs, and the staff at Marion Medical Mission, we thank you.

Without the prayers, help and support of all the people involved, we could not bring safe, clean, protected water to the villagers. Just as all parts of the human body are essential for life, all the people involved are essential for life giving water.

Application Question: How do I show my thanks to those who have helped me become what I am?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, We give You thanks for all who have helped us in our faith journey. Our parents, children, co-workers, pastors, teachers, and friends all have been instruments in the great symphony of our life. We pray that our journey will be an inspiration to others and lead them to a life of service to all humankind. We ask this in the name of your Son. Amen
