From @mmm_water ... 2019 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 14 - October 28 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

COME TO THE WATER
Jan Van Heiningen
Volunteer, Tennessee

“Come all you who are thirsty, come to the water.”
Isaiah 55:1a

There are so many “memory pictures” in my heart from my seven trips to Africa. The one I share today is that of villagers escorting us to the dedication of a new well.

Inviting our friends and families to a special event – sometimes life changing and sometimes not – is so much easier for us here in the USA than for our African friends. We simply send a text, or make a phone call, or mail and invitation, etc. However, in a remote African village, the invitation to their family and friends to witness the well installation and to participate in the well dedication reminds me of a single drop of water radiating outward. As we exit the truck, we often hear a single voice begin this ripple announcing the arrival of the MMM team. That voice is joined by another – then another – and the invitation to “come to the water” becomes an ever-increasing choral processional that includes dancing, hugging, and occasionally a crying baby. A scene of a joyful yet dusty celebration of praise confirming so beautifully that indeed “Water is Life.” A scene that never leaves my memory or my heart.

How blessed we are to witness the moment that generational village prayers for safe drinking water have finally been answered.

Application Question: What song do I/we sing in our communities that invite others to carry out His work in Africa?

Prayer: Father of us all – I pray that as each of us shares the good news of Your Son and the MMM story, that our efforts will forever bring honor to Your name and mirror Isaiah’s invitation – “Come all you who are thirsty, come to the water”. Asante Sana Bwana Jesu!
