As hungry patrons lined up outside, Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry volunteers formed a circle, took hands and bowed their heads to pray.
The ministry typically serves a Thanksgiving meal -- turkey and all the fixings -- to 300 Midlanders on the Wednesday before the holiday. But for managers Jason and Nancy Ivy, the kitchen provides more than just a warm, home-cooked meal.
“We’re meeting physical, spiritual and emotional needs,” said Nancy, who started volunteering in the kitchen at age 8 when her parents ran it. “That’s the most important part: giving thanks to the Lord.”
