From @mmm_water ... 2019 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 14 - October 28 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

WE DO ACTION

“Dear children, Let us not love with words or tongue, but with ACTION and in truth.”
1 John 3:18

After procrastinating for several days on which verse I wanted to select for this devotion, I finally selected 1 John 3:18, one I felt personified the mission of MMM. Within 30 minutes, I read two articles in the MMM newsletter that spoke directly to this verse.

Betty Samelson expressed the amazement and gratitude of a village leader when “two women from America drove a truck into his village with parts for the well so his people could have clean water. It showed him how much we love his people” (action). “He said the government made promises and didn’t keep them” (words).

Tom Logan’s article expressed the actions we make without words. “Sharing Christ’s love regardless of who they are or their beliefs. Working with the people, going where there are no roads, electric power or means of communication. Not speaking the language or understanding the culture.”

The next day, I passed by a nearby Methodist church that had a sign posted that read “Love isn’t what you say, it’s what you do.”

So what does MMM do? It shows our love of Jesus Christ through our act of providing wells. Our words of love ring hollow with our loved ones if we don’t act like we love them. The same hold true with the people we serve in the mission field. Yes, MMM is truth and love by our actions.

Application: Besides showing up with our team to install each well, what other ac- tions can we take at the well sites to express our love?

Prayer: Gracious God, quiet our lips and strengthen our bodies to act in truth and love to serve those You place in our lives. We ask Your blessings on Marion Medical Mission and the work it performs to provide clean water to our brothers and sisters in Africa. Let our actions during this well season exhibit and express the love of Jesus Christ. In Your Holy name we pray, Amen.
