From @mmm_water ... 2019 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 14 - October 28 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

DO NOT WORRY
Ken Simpson
Spouse of a Volunteer, Missouri

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear.” “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?” “But strive first for the kingdom of God and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6: 25, 30, 33

I have not been to Africa, but my wife, Alisa participated twice as an MMM volunteer. Prior to her travels, I worried about all of the possible problems that could occur: injury, illness, fatigue, insufficient food/sleep, etc., etc. The list was really endless because I can be very creative when it comes to worrying! I clearly was not following Christ’s ‘Don’t worry’ advice; I was one of those with “little faith.”

I could only imagine two possible outcomes to her participation in this distant land. The best possible outcome was, I believed, that Alisa would arrive back home safe and sound and just like she was when she left. That is, I imagined that the best possible outcome would be an unchanged Alisa. What worried me was that she would be changed and the only vision of change to me was for the worse, that one of many possible problems I imagined would occur.

What I did not foresee was the Hand of God at work to change Alisa, yes, not for the worse but for the better. She grew and changed in a very fundamental way. Her view of the world expanded substantially. She developed knowledge, skills, and dispositions, all because she was open to the influence of faith and simply said ‘yes’ to this opportunity, an opportunity that was a gift from the Creator and conveyed so clearly in Christ’s message.

Application Question: Can you be open to the Creator giving to you the riches of life?

Prayer: Creator, support our striving for Your kingdom Calm our worried minds. Help us imagine instead the lilies of the fields. Open us to accept Your gifts to understand that doing so is part of the plan.
