From @mmm_water ... 2021 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2021. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

"Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.”
Proverbs 3:5-6

During the orientation meeting in Malawi, the Rev. Elisha Mwasakifwa reminded us that we had been called by God’s Holy Spirit to serve in Africa. Our being together - first-time volunteers and long-time mission workers alike - was not mere accident or coincidence. It was by design.

I felt the Spirit confirm that truth in my heart. I needed the important reminder that God was behind this work, and to trust our Lord as we prepared to drive those sturdy Toyotas down the unknown, bumpy, winding roads.

At that same meeting, we were invited to share why we were on the trip, and my response was “obedience.” I am not a naturally adventurous sort, so God has to prompt me to step out in faith. I wanted to be of use to God, and I wanted to be of help to Marion Medical Mission. But God knows I needed to learn how to trust and obey. I still do.

Believers often say or sing “I love you” to God. Proverbs encourages us to sing “I trust you” just as loud. Recognize that God is in this work, and God is the primary director of this work. Listen. Keep your eyes open. Stay connected with the wonderful community that surrounds you. Resist the temptation to think that you alone know what should be done.

Application Question: What evidence do you see - right now - that God is trustworthy? How will your actions today demonstrate your trust in Jesus?

Prayer: Lord, You are holy, just, and loving. You are worthy of our trust. Thank You for making us part of a worldwide community of faith, and for bringing forth clean water as a visible reminder of Your miracle-working power.
