From @mmm_water ... 2021 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give Glory to your Father who is in Heaven." Matthew 5:16

We were preparing for Sunday church service, August 22, 2010. It was 9:30 am. A desperate call came in. “Martin had an accident, we couldn’t revive him. He stopped breathing.” He drowned. Our son, an award-winning swimmer, hit his head on a rock as he dove into Kentucky Lake. We saw him at the coroner’s office.

He had on the starfish necklace given to him by his father, Tom Logan, at age 21. Martin wore it throughout his adult life. Martin was 36. The story his Dad shared:

A boy and his father were walking along the beach. On the sandy beach were thousands of starfish that were washed up. As they walked, the boy picked up a starfish and threw it in the ocean and watched it return to life. As they continued walking, the boy picked up another and another starfish and threw them into the ocean. The father said in exasperation, “Son, will you stop that, there are too many to save. What difference does it make?” The son picked up a starfish, threw it into the ocean, and said, “It made a difference to that one.”

Martin’s life was a reflection of the starfish story. He reached out to help others and even “saved” two lives. His friends continue to donate wells in his memory every year. Martin’s legacy of love continue through their giving. Tom now wears Martin’s starfish pendant. It is a reminder of our son’s bright light and the path God has called us to take.

There are no easy paths. The road is difficult. We must raise the funds. The sun beats down as we struggle to get to one well site and then another. You pray to God for endurance. You install the well. You meet a young child at the well site. You are making a difference to that one. The child will live.

Posted on Martin’s desk. ”Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Author Unknown

Application Question: How will you let your light shine today?

Prayer: Lord, will you please use me to make a difference to someone today.
