MIDLAND, TEXAS - His flock call him “Father Swamy.” His real name is the Rev. Arogya Swamy Lakkineni, and he’s the new priest at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Shrine.
Raised in Itukulapadu, a tiny town in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India, Lakkineni grew up in a devout Catholic family of four sons and five daughters. His mother tongue is Telugu, and he also speaks English and a little bit of Spanish. While studying for his bachelor’s degree in economics in India, his local pastor asked him to join the seminary.
