ODESSA, TEXAS - Parishioners at St. Mary’s Catholic Church gathered Tuesday night to join in celebrating the Rev. Santiago Udayar’s 25th Priestly Ordination Anniversary.
About 250 people packed into the auditorium of St. Mary’s to celebrate a major accomplishment and the time they have spent with Udayar.
Udayar was born in India in 1959 and was ordained as a priest in 1989.
“I had just graduated from high school and the call had consumed me. God was calling me to serve his people and so I decided to become a priest,” Udayar said.
He then came to the United States where he continued his path in the church and in the community serving as a principal at many schools, a teacher and even a lawyer during his tenure.
