Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Burma.
I didn’t want the handful of people seated across from me to see my tears, so I blinked once, hard, and then opened my eyes really wide and looked out the open door of the tent-like structure I was sitting in towards the Jabal al-Sharqi mountain range that defines the eastern edge of the Beqaa valley in Lebanon, and delineates the Lebanese-Syrian border. I let my mind drift from the conversation happening around me to focus on the walls of the structure; a golden grey fabric with what looked like a floral pattern woven into it’s cheaply shimmery surface. I wonder how well it keeps the wind out, I mused, then felt another lump rise up in my throat ...
