MIDLAND, TEXAS - In April, I had the privilege of traveling with my wife Pat and 60 other pilgrims from across the U.S. to attend the canonization of Pope John XXXIII and Pope John Paul II.
When Cardinal Angelo Roncalli became Pope John XXIII in October, 1958, I was only one day old. Twenty years later, in October 1978, Karol Cardinal Wojtyla became the first non–Italian pope to serve the Church in 455 years.
On Divine Mercy Sunday, April 27, 2014, both men were canonized as Saints by Pope Francis. It was a blessing to be in Rome to experience our truly universal church praying and celebrating with such joy.
