MIDLAND, TEXAS - Fortnight For Freedom is a campaign begun by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to participate in events during a 14-day period in June and July that heightens awareness of religious liberty issues in the United States.
The first observance of Fortnight for Freedom opened with a Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in June 2012. Since, the event has grown to encompass events held at dioceses around the country, 70 of which held events in 2012.
This year’s event, called “Fortnight for Freedom to Serve” will focus on the freedom to serve the poor and vulnerable in accord with human dignity and the Church’s teaching.
