ODESSA, TEXAS - After threats of a lawsuit from an organization that promotes the separation of church and state, Ector County Independent School District officials discovered the district wasn’t following policy on the tradition of prayer at graduation ceremonies.
To escape the legal ramifications, the district decided to retroactively make the changes despite the hurt feelings of a few students who will now be left out of speaking at the graduation ceremonies next week.
