September 14 - October 28 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME
Carol Nussbaumer
Volunteer, Colorado
“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belons to them.”
Luke 18:30
When a picture is taken at a new well, we are to do 2 things: have a mama pumping water and have children catching the water. We don’t tell the kids to move back but to come forward. They should come to the new well and drink the clean water and learn to read the words on the top: Glory to God.
“Let the little children come…” This well will provide water for them and maybe even for their children. Many MMM volunteers comment on all the kids at the well; how they hugged and sang and danced together. For many, the faces of the children and their eagerness to take our hand as we walk become the very core of why they came. What joy to know that, because of clean water, they will grow up and inherit the kingdom of God!
When Jim & I first came to Malawi in 1997, we were invited by Stephen Zulanga to visit his village outside of Embangweni. It was “not far”: a 9km walk each way. Stephen showed us many things, including his MMM well and the old water source. He pointed to the well and said “Now my children don’t die anymore.” In that moment we knew this was something we needed to pursue; here was something to make a difference. We didn’t expect it to turn into a second career! But one of those children who didn’t die is now a teacher; another is the father of a son named “Jim.” The wells make a difference!
Application: Look at a child at a well. Can you see that child as an adult because of clean water? Can you see its children and descendents in a long line marching into the future? Praise God!
Prayer: Father God, You created water to sustain life. I praise You for this gift. I praise You for bringing me to this place where I can help those who need water receive it. Thank You for health and energy and the certainty of Your love around me, sustaining and encouraging through the heat and the walks. Let me feel the touch of Your arm supporting me and let Your love shine through me today.
