From @mmm_water ... 2019 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 14 - October 28 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2019. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

TRUST IN GOD

Volunteer, Colorado

“I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous, do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9

After the children of Israel had wandered in the wilderness for 40 years, Joshua, the newly called prophet, was charged with the task of leading them into the promised land. Joshua may have felt the overwhelming weight of the task before him. And so the Lord offered these comforting yet encouraging words. As the scripture teaches, when we are strong and courageous and overcome fear, the Lord will always be with us.

Midway through my trip last year to Malawi we spent a few days installing wells in the beautiful and rugged hills of Misuku, NW of Karonga. The climbs were hot and strenuous, and several times on the long way back up to the truck I found myself praying to God to give me the strength to make it up. On our last well one day when I was completely exhausted, an old man from the village appeared and insisted on carrying both the tool bag and heavy pipe wrench up the hill as his way of saying thanks. I followed this gentleman slowly up the hill, and in doing so I had the feeling that God had appeared and that I was following God.

Like Joshua, we seldom have all the answers to our personal challenges. But there is comfort in knowing that when we turn to the Lord for guidance, we will succeed because He has the answers we need. He was with Joshua, and He will be with us. Know that God may cast you in rough places on your journey, but if you trust in Him, He will guide you and watch over you.

Application Question: How will you give yourself over to God, and trust in Him to protect you on your journey in Africa, or wherever you are?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please open my heart to You so that I will hear Your words and feel Your presence. Know that I will trust in Your spirit and will take comfort in the knowledge that You are with me. Thank You for the privilege of letting me do a very small part in providing clean water to the people in Africa. In Your precious name, Amen.
