Faces of Children: Prayer Requests

Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Our mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, we seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).

Prayer Concerns for the week of 3/20/13

China, Burma

• Please keep in prayer China’s ethnic hill tribe people along the Nu River (also known as the Salween River) who face displacement when the construction of four dams begins in the near future. Pray for the 60,000 children, young people, and adults (most of whom belong to the Lisu ethnic minority) who will lose their homes, schools, livelihoods, and communities when the dam construction begins.

• Pray for Burma’s Kachin ethnic minority who live across the Salween River and will also be impacted by the construction of these dams.

• Pray for those authorizing and carrying out the dam construction projects … that they will treat the Lisu, the Kachin, and others facing displacement with fairness and be transparent in their dealings. Pray the environmental impact assessment will be completed with integrity and truthfulness. Pray those constructing the dams will comply with the assessment recommendations.

Japan
• Please keep the people of Japan held close in prayer as they continue to deal with the aftermath of the massive earthquake, tsunami, and the atomic accident at Fukushima two years ago this month. Pray for the 150,000 people who were permanently displaced from their homes in a 700 square mile area that was contaminated with radiation.

Syria, Turkey, Lebanon
• Continue to lift in prayer the children of Syria who have been subjected to incredible violence during the past two years of civil war in their country. Pray for those who have been shot at, tortured, and raped during this season of unrest and conflict. Pray for the estimated two million children who face malnutrition, disease, early marriage, and severe trauma because of this brutal civil war.

• Pray for children who have fled their homes and sought refuge in barns, parks, and caves. Pray for those who have fled to Turkey and Lebanon and struggle to find housing and enough food to eat. Pray for children who have been separated from their families and for those who have experienced the death of a close family member or friend.

• Please keep in prayer children who are targeted by government forces as well as rebels. Pray for young boys who are used as porters, runners, and human shields. Pray for girls who are married off at a young age to keep them from being raped or to help reduce the number of mouths that need to be fed in their families.

• Pray for an end to this violence and for peace and reconciliation throughout Syria.

United States
• Keep Charles* and his 14-year-old daughter Faith* close in prayer as they seek permanent housing after having to leave their temporary lodging on short notice. Pray God will provide them with safe, affordable shelter soon. Pray God will also bring healing and peace to Faith, who was sexually abused by an uncle and recently had to testify at his trial. Give thanks to God for justice in this case—Faith’s rapist was found guilty. Pray Faith’s uncle might experience God’s love and healing during his time in prison.

• Please pray for the organizers and volunteers of the Forum on Human Trafficking taking place this week in Midland, Texas. Pray for those speaking at the event and those who will attend it. Give God thanks that more people are becoming aware of the trafficking of children and adults and are committed to stopping this horribly destructive practice.

• Pray for the students at Red River High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota as they deal with the consequences of a prank by several fellow students at a state hockey tournament. Three fans in the student section at the hockey game took the “white out” tradition, where everyone wears all white clothing, too far by wearing Ku Klux Klan-style white robes and hoods. Pray for school administrators as they investigate this incident and determine the perpetrators. Pray for those who committed this offensive, sickening act…that they might understand the effect of their actions and atone for them.

Faces of Children
• Please keep Faces of Children prayer partner Jenean held close in prayer as she works to gain custody of her grandchildren, 2-year-old Tristan and 1-year-old Lily. Pray God will provide these little ones with the best placement situation for them at this time in their lives.

• Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.

If you have prayer requests about children, those who care for them, those who have authority over them, or those who harm them (the really hard prayers to say sometimes), please send them to Chris Laufer, FOC Coordinator, at claufer@facesofchildren.net
