Midland Mission to Thailand: February 26

EDITOR'S NOTE: A mission team from First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, has recently returned to the United States from a triip to Thailand. I will be sharing some daily notes from their trip.

It has been a busy but very productive trip thus far. We have had the opportunity to visit with many of our Thailand ministry partners over the last week and we feel that it has been beneficial for all involved. Below is a summary of where we have been and what we have done . . ..

Tuesday, February 26

We left early Monday morning to drive north to the Mae Kha Chan Children’s Home. Mark Seibert went with us and it is always interesting to visit with him. He is currently working on a Kachin Bible Project. He had 45,000 Kachin Bibles coming in and will be coordinating the transport of these Bibles to the Kachin State of Burma.

We arranged to have our driver, Hong, from our first trip in 2007, drive us up. Ms. Lewen toured us around the children’s home and updated us on the current activities and needs of the home. There are 57 children currently at this location – 24 kindergarten children and the 27 secondary children. We were able to see the bedding, wardrobes, and the new flooring in the dorm rooms that our church help fund. We then drove another hour north to the new children’s home and school located in Mae Lao that has an additional 96 elementary age children. The Mae Lao home is in a church that was not being used. Our church helped fund a new roof at this facility. We visited with the children and head master at the school and then drove back to Mae Kha Chan. We were able to meet Kawin (Geng) a young Bangkok University college student who helps run this home. He is a great young man with good ideas on how to improve the home and make it self-sufficient.

We drove back to Chiang Mai in time to change for the Grand Opening of the new Drop-In Center for Garden of Hope. It is located in a new building several blocks away from the past location. Many of the children and their parents were present. After the official ribbon cutting we were treated to a program of singing dancing and a brief message from a local pastor. Larry toured us through the building and visited about the needs and future plans for the program.
