From January 4-11, 2014, a team from 1st Presbyterian Church-Midland will be traveling to the Central American country of Belize, and working with The Word at Work ministry. This will be an opportunity to reach out and share the gospel with the people of Belize while working side-by-side with the local community and The Word at Work staff on a much-needed construction project.
Change of Pace, and Location
As I posted before, a week of service in the village of El Progresso, in the mountains of Belize's Cayo District, came to an end last night with a gala evening of music and movies, food and fellowship, prayer and praise,
FIrst Prez-Midland's 2014 Belize Mission is nearing its end ... But we're not quite there yet. Our final full day in this Central American nation will be one for review and reflection upon what we have done, what we might have done differently, and what we might do in the future,
A change of pace, and a change of location. For us here, in the mountains these last few rain-soaked days, Belize has been a nation of mud, swollen streams and dense, jungle-like growth. But it is also a nation of sunshine and palm-dotted shores, and that is where we were headed.
Once there, we boarded a boat that would take us to one of the islands that dot the nation's coastline, bringing us to to Adventure Lodge on Spanish Lookout Caye. On other occasion, this might be bustling place, but they are 'between cruises.' The next batch of cruise ships isn't expected to drop anchor off Belize City for a couple of days, and we have Spanish Lookout Caye all to ourselves, which will suit our purposes perfectly.

So this morning we bid farewell to our hosts, the Carrs, and their staff at Banana Bank - with its beautiful setting among the large, colorful flowers and tall, broad trees of old-growth forest, the horses and the raucous birds, and headed east for the Belize City and the coast.
