MIDLAND, TEXAS - Rays of Hope Children’s Grief Centre observed National Children’s Grief Awareness Day — also known as National Blue Day — Thursday with an art exhibit titled “Grief Through the Eyes of a Child” featuring art by the center’s clients.
“It’s very touching to be able to look into the lives of these families who have been impacted by loss,” said Kelsee Jones, program director at Rays of Hope. “It’s powerful in the sense that you can really recognize their grief, but you can also see the hope that they have in healing. We feel like it’s very touching and impactful for people to come in and see and it really speaks to the work that we want to try to do.”
Jones said the art project is an assignment of a program that aims to help clients and their families create a visual representation of what their grief. She hopes the exhibit was able to remind the community that “we’re surrounded by children who are grieving due to losses and changes in their lives and that we do have the power to support them ...”
