Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Burma.

A Place to Call Home

The hills are shrouded in mist in this fortress village high in the mountains straddling Thailand and Shan State, Burma. It has a sense of permanence with its school and clinic and shops. More and more buildings go up each week it seems and now there is cellphone coverage in the clinic area. And it feels like things have changed in that nano of an instant. Students now spend their free time texting or scrolling Facebook. Modernity has come to this outback.
