Partners Blog: "Life After Uni"

Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Burma.

After visiting the Mother Teresa homes of Kolkata, India, I caught my first glimpse into the world of extreme poverty. I witnessed the desperation of young mothers trying to feed their malnourished children and the immense suffering of people longing for hope. Returning home to New Zealand (NZ), I was confronted by these opposing worlds of affluence and scarcity.

After graduating with a Masters in International Development from UoA, I knew that I wanted to do something more than working a 9-5 job out of a sky rise office building every day. I decided to volunteer with Partners Relief & Development ...
